The Journey is Better with Friends.

  1. What started as a clever fundraising effort has transformed into an inspired art movement. Project Flutter paired together Friends of Wings children and their families with a Moosylvania designer to create a poster that represented overcoming the life-limiting challenges of childhood illness or the loss of a loved one.

At the Project Flutter kickoff, this Saturday, 20 inspiring posters will be revealed. All proceeds from the posters sold will benefit the Friends of Wings efforts with Wings on Wheels, a new mobile therapy program specializing in grief support and expressive art therapy for children and families facing life-limiting or threatening illnesses. The Wings on Wheels program will visit patients, peers and families of a child in BJC’s pediatric hospice program, Wings, as well as provide community outreach at schools, churches and more.

Moosylvania, a creative advertising agency, was excited to team up with the Friends of Wings organization again. What our designers didn’t expect was to become so passionately involved in each moving story.

  3. As a designer at a digital marketing agency, I love what I do. But sometimes I find myself stuck and unmotivated. Here are some tips and tricks that give me the boost I need when things get stale.

    1. Reward Yourself
As designers, we often have a long list of things that need to be done by the end of our day. Some are small. Some are, quite frankly, scary. My advice here is to make a list and make sure every time you scratch something off, you give yourself a reward. It could be candy or maybe a funny cat video on YouTube. Reward yourself. (I know I will be after I finish writing this.) (more…)

  4. 36 Chambers of Web Standards

Each year on November 30th, web designers and developers across the globe come together to celebrate Blue Beanie Day, a time to honor the past and embrace the future of our profession through the lens of Web Standards. Here at Moosylvania, all of our interactive projects are built upon the foundation of Web Standards. What does this mean? It means that we use web standards to create user-friendly websites.

Used to be, this was a thing, that you could get a job just by mentioning CSS or Section 508. But now, pretty much every modern interactive practice is rooted in the same fundamentals. Even the browser makers are on board. Our work here is done. Yay!

  5. Are you seeking to fulfill your humdrum days with an adventure-packed summer in the fast-paced world of advertising agencies? Every summer, Moosylvania invites a special group of youngsters to our exclusive Camp Moose internship program. You’ll spend your days getting valuable experience in digital, experiential marketing, branding, promotions all mixed in with some agency antics. Watch our 2012 Camp Moose video for a behind the scenes scoop.

By now you are probably wondering, how do I apply for such a wonderful internship program? Well, you simply show us your skills, whether that’s through blogs, tweets, video – really anything goes. Be creative and submit by March 6, 2013. Interns can specialize in:

    • Account Service
    • Copywriter/Community Manager
    • Art Director
    • Interactive Developer

Our people comb through applications looking for talent, enthusiasm, personality, charisma and work ethic (preferably good work ethic).

If your application speaks to us, we will ask you to interview by March 20, 2013. And on the big interview day we will have none other than renowned pancake-connoisseur Jared Lender, of Chis Cakes, flipping breakfast for all of our prospective interns (and hopefully I get a leftover short stack too).

Previous intern, now Moose writer Tawnia Seeley reflects back on her time at 2012 Moose Camp, “I’ve had advertising internships in the past, but none better than Camp Moose.  Instead of poison ivy and bad camp food, I came away with great mentor relationships, insights into creative writing beyond what I learned at school, and best of all, I landed a full-time job at Moose! I don’t know what raffle I won to be picked for this opportunity, but I’m super grateful. “

The best and brightest will be selected for 2013 Camp Moose, which kicks off June 3-August 9th, 2013.

Find out more about Camp Moose on our site. Follow us for more intern info updates.

  6. The advertising agency that selected you isn’t just looking for raw talent; they’re looking for professionalism, attitude, hustle and the ability to play well with others. This short list of tips from a few of this summer’s Moosylvania interns applies for copywriters, designers and account service and will make your hiring agency glad you came along.

    1.    You’re in the big leagues now

Skills might help you get your foot in the door, but making your advertising agency view you as a professional is imperative. As Luke Sullivan puts it in his book Hey Whipple, Squeeze This, “The whole chaos-is-good, whiskey-and-cigarettes, showing-up-late-for-work thing is fine for artists and rock stars. But advertising is only half art. It’s also half business.”

Get organized, be on time and do what you say you are going to do.

I’ve always been a big fan of the Olympics, and the summer Olympics in particular. With the London 2012 Games fast approaching, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming competitions. One of my favorites is Women’s Gymnastics because of the strength and grace that the athletes exhibit.

In thinking about how to craft this blog post, and give a little advice to our interns and other account service job seekers, I’m drawn to making comparisons between aspects of my career at a full-service advertising agency and gymnastic events.

Let’s start with the uneven bars.
This event symbolizes development of the creative brief, one of the most crucial account service job functions. Why? It entails delicately swinging between the high bar – the business and marketing objectives that the client has provided to you – and the low bar – the insights that you uncover about the consumer, channel, upcoming trends, etc. My advice is to spend the time it takes thinking through it. Ask why, and then ask why again. Top advertising agencies know a good brief takes hours to write, because digging down to the heart of the assignment requires an immense amount of consideration. But, the end result of steering your creative team in the right direction is always worth it! (more…)

  10. Not even a year ago I was still in college.

The working world is so awesome that one of the residents of my former shack even followed me here.

I lived in a dump with seven dudes and three dogs in a six-bedroom shack. I had no job because I didn’t want one. My grades were only a shade above decent. I contributed nothing to society. It was awesome.

But in an interesting twist, I like being a professional copywriter and living the working life better.

This post is for anyone who wants an advertising agency job and hasn’t landed their first gig yet. This is not a list of things I’m good at. Instead, this is a list of things I noticed have helped people get (and keep) an entry-level advertising job. I used a few of them myself, and look at me now! Blogging like some kind of expert. (Hey Mom!)
