Do you manage a Facebook Page? Wonder how you can comment as yourself on that Facebook Page? Then check out the video above to see where to update your Facebook Page’s settings. In order to comment as yourself on any Facebook Page you admin, you have to update the settings on each Facebook Page you manage.

Why would you want to comment as yourself on a Facebook Page you are the Admin of? Here’s a few reasons that come to mind:

  1. Interactions with wall posts increase that post’s EdgeRank (the ranking power a post has that places it into a user’s Top News feed.)
  2. Commenting on or Liking a Page’s wall post will spread that post into your friends’ news feeds, which can help out your social media marketing.
  3. You have a personal angle or comment to a story or link that your company is sharing.
  4. What else? Tell us another reason why in the comments.

Once you update the settings, you have to toggle between using Facebook as you and your Page, depending on what you are trying to do. Just something to remember if you are used to logging in, navigating to your Page and leaving a post. Once you update the settings, make sure after you log in, you click the link to use Facebook as your Page — which is on the upper right hand corner. Then you can update your wall as your Page.

What other changes would you like to see Facebook make so that managing a Facebook Page is easier, more effective and/or better organized?

As for reasons to comment as yourself and not the page….

Especially if you have a page where there are a bunch of admins AND the public knows who the admins are. People know that Johnny and Jenny are the voices of the page, so instead of commenting and leaving a ‘-Jenny’ at the end, you can just comment as yourself.

It is weird to me that this function sort of takes it back to the old groups… We all migrated to pages because we wanted to communicate as the BRAND, btu with this function, we are starting to comment as the individual voice. I love this trend. I hope that more companies/organizations start identifying their voices as featured admins on the page and use those voices in the comments.

As for changes Facebook could make for admins…
They made a good change and took it away recently! You used to only be able to like and tag pages with your user account, so I was liking all these pages I really didn’t care about, just because I needed to tag them for a page I admin-ed. THEN Facebook started allowing you to like/tag as the Page, which was awesome! But they took it away again. Now Pages can only tag their applications. So annoying.

Ahhh, yeah. My biggest problem with Facebook is their habit of releasing (seemingly) random updates (some good, some bad) and then yanking them away or completely ignoring them. There was one update last year (that I can’t remember right now) that literally lasted less than 24 hours. Seems like there should be more thought put into their releases and then better communication & education provided to those that use Facebook as a marketing platform.

Thanks for the comment, Danielle!

I always thought it was strange that when you “like” something on your a business page, it’s as your personal profile, but when you post/comment it’s was as the page. I just always assumed it wasn’t possible to post/comment on a page you admin.

Awesome tip, thanks for sharing!

I agree, Aaron. I’m not sure exactly when Facebook made the update, but I’m glad they did!
